Rachel turned 28 in March. We, of course, had a birthday dinner with cake and all and then she got to open presents!
I had seen an article in our local paper about the Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport. All of the rooms are based on a different author; Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, etc. The Edgar Allan Poe room was just redesigned into the JK Rowling room so I called right away and reserved it for Rachel's birthday day.
There was a Gryffindor plaque on the door so we knew we had the right room
The walls were faux brick to make it feel like Hogwarts.
Moaning Myrtle freaked us out every time we went into the bathroom
A broomstick (Nimbus 3000 of course!) and the golden snitch
The posters to the left are a few Proclamations from Prof. Umbridge. There are potions on the desk and the globe thing on the right lights up like a chrystal ball.
Hedwig
I'm pretty sure this must be Pig
Just in case we've forgotten what JK Rowling looks like :)
Harry's, Dumbledore's, Hermione's and He Who Must Not Be Named's wands.
Rachel in front of the hotel. We had a great time! The hotel is not a rambunctious place with people running up and down the halls. They have a quiet reading nook with a fire place and tea. Its like sleeping in a big library which was just perfect for Rachel and I...nothing better than having to read all day :)
